FAQs
Is the cost for medical alert services a one-time fee, or is it ongoing?
Stay Safe products are part of a medical alert monitoring system to which users subscribe. The service is not unlike a telephone, which is a device that you buy, but you must contract with a provider for it to work. This way, you are not obligated to remain with the same medical alert company indefinitely. If you ever decide that you want to discontinue service or change your medical alert system to another provider, you may cancel your subscription. Because our service is just over $1 a day, it is very popular among seniors and others on a fixed income.
How does a medical alert bracelet work?
Once you purchase the bracelet and pay the subscription fee, you simply charge it with the included charging device, then strap it to your wrist. Your medical alert bracelet works anywhere you wish to travel within the U.S. This is a benefit you don’t get with our home-based systems, which only work inside your home.
If you have a medical emergency, simply press the button on your medical alert bracelet and you will be able use your device to talk to an emergency operator. You can tell them what the problem is and what you want them to do (send a family member, ambulance, etc.).
How does a medical alert necklace for seniors work?
Medical alert necklaces work exactly the same way as medical alert bracelets, except you wear it around your neck instead of your wrist. The difference between a Stay Safe medical alert bracelet and a medical alert necklace is simply a matter of preference as to where you want to wear it.
Will others know I am wearing a medical alert system?
They don’t have to if you don’t want them to. A medical alert necklace comes on a lanyard which can be easily tucked inside of clothing. However, lanyards and coiled bungee cords for wrists and belt loops are almost universal in workplaces today as a way to limit access to outsiders and to hold necessary identification. Schoolteachers, government employees and others routinely wear lanyards and wrist cords with multiple items attached to them in order to gain access to buildings, elevators, cafeterias, restrooms and other restricted areas. Your medical alert device is 2” by 2.5” by 0.5” and looks very much like a key fob for an apartment building or car. No one will know, unless you choose to tell them.
What if the power goes out? Will my senior alert system still work?
Yes, your elderly alert system runs on rechargeable batteries. It is not connected to a landline or a power cord. How long it will last depends on how much charge is left in your medical alert device. Your senior medical alert system will last up to two days on a full charge, but we recommend recharging it daily.
